New Team Buys #26 Points

• New Cup team buys #26 Roush number?: hearing that Vermont businessman Bill Jenkins [owners of Latitude 43, a cleaning products company] has purchased the #26 number from Roush Fenway Racing. The transaction includes racing equipment plus 2009 owner points, meaning that the new team will automatically qualify for the first five NASCAR Sprint Cup races in 2010. A driver and sponsor have not yet been named for the new team, which will be known as Latitude 43 Motor Sports.(1-12-2010)

How is that even possible? Roush can't own more than four teams, and by 'buying' owners points, Roush would actually be listed as the owner. Is there some loophole as to who is actually listed, such as Roush's wife or Geoff Smith or someone?

That's true, I forgot about him. Still stupid. I hate the buying and selling of points. This is the 'franchising' that NASCAR wanted, I guess.

It is a new team which is owned by someone else. The car number (26) is owned by NASCAR, not the team owners. when Roush was forced to go to 4 teams the number reverts to NASCAR. Roush has absolutely nothing to do with this new team (if it even really exhists)

I'm not talking about the Number, I'm talking about the owner's points which do belong to Roush Racing. If the new team is 'buying' the owners points from Roush, then Roush has everything to do with this team.
