Default Hey 17nut

If your in the Reading area Sunday or just wanna take a drive. I love when the vintage racers get together.

Fairgrounds celebration Sunday

The Reading Fairgrounds speedway hosted its final event on June 29, 1979.

But the memories created at the famed clay oval will live forever.

Past attendees, former racers and interested enthusiasts will have the opportunity to share stories, view vintage race cars and rekindle the magic that was Reading on Sunday as the 30th anniversary of the track's closing is remembered at FirstEnergy Stadium.

The Reading Fairgrounds Racing Historical Society, which is dedicated to preserving Reading's history, has organized a free day-long event, starting at 10 a.m.

"This is something we've worked hard to put together for the 30-year anniversary," RFRHS spokesman Mike Grim said. "We're very pleased with the interest and the feedback. We're hoping this will carry us right into the Reading Fair."

More than 50 vintage race cars are expected to be on display, and some of the track's key figures will be inducted into the "Home of Champions," as the track was dubbed in its heyday.

Inductees will be Tommy Hinnershitz, Bobby Abel, Freddy Adam, Kenny Brightbill, Gerald Chamberlain, Al and Orlando Consoli, Larry Dickson, Russ Delp, Al Gaspari, Lindy Vicari, Warren Ruffner, Russ Smith, George Speck, Al Tasnady, Dick Tobias, Francis Valeriano and Kenny Weld. The induction ceremony begins at 1 p.m.

Awesome i will be down for sure! I know right where it is. Kenny Brightbill ran at Big D the last time i was there. His son also runs in sportsman. From what i hear the fairgrounds used to be a good spot for the 714 who is my all time favorite Mod Driver! Thanks I had no clue about this!!
