Man, when I first heard this movie was going to me made I was thrilled. Unfortunately, in my humble opinion, this trailer shows the movie to be pretty lame. I hope I'm wrong though. The casting appears to be good and the movie is produced by the Matrix guy so you would expect the special effects to be awesome. Thanks for sharing the link FFighter.

It looks really similar to the cartoon. Some will like that, and some will not. As for me, I have not decided yet what I expected and whether I like the look and plot or not. I guess I will check it out and then make a decision...

same here, it is very japanamaish, sort of like a mix in between the cartoon, and power rangers type of feel to it. i will have to see it to have a final judgement. it looks like it could be close to what some call a cult type film. Speed has a big following and this could bring it back.

I haven't seen it yet, but it looks like it will have to make money on the DVD sales because it isn't doing to well at the theaters.

Iron Man I am sure is a much better movie. The Speed Racer movie previews looks like it would absolutely suck.

it looks like the concentrated too much on special effects and not enough on the racing aspect. from what i've seen it's far too busy, i nearly had a seziure just watching the preview. john goodman cast as the father couldn't have been anymore dead on, perfect match there!!! i grew up on speed (the CARTOON, LOL!!!!!) so i'll have to check it out but i'm afraid to say from what i've seen thus far i think it may be a disappointment :-(

the only issue i am having going to see this movie is that i have already seen the diecast that is out on the market and they are showing a Mach 4, Mach 5 and a Mach 6. and alot of it has surrounded the Mach 6 more than anything. since when was there a Mach 6. the show was always about Speed and the Mach 5. its even in the theme song:

Here he comes, here comes Speed Racer - he’s a demon on wheels
He’s a demon and he’s gonna be chasin’ after someone.

""""He’s gainin’ on you so you better look alive.
He’s busy revvin’ up a powerful Mach 5.
And when the odds are against him
And there’s dangerous work to do

You bet your life Speed Racer will see it through.
Go Speed Racer! Go Speed Racer! Go Speed Racer, Go!

He’s off and flyin’ as he guns the car around the track
He’s jammin’ down the pedal like he’s never comin’ back
Adventure’s waitin’ just ahead.
Go Speed Racer! Go Speed Racer! Go Speed Racer, Go!"""

I mean i dont mind some tweeking to a movie but that is a total change up.

Jeez , and this coming from a RACING fan ??? lol

That is true but I never liked the Speed Racer cartoon either. I just don't think I will see that movie but that is my option.

It doesn't look like anybody actually reviewed the movie, so here goes.

Worst. Car Movie. Ever.

Going in I had not heard good things but usually movies that are reviewed poorly are good, and raved movies are not. In this case, it was reviewed poorly and deserved it wholeheartedly.

The movie SHOULD have been great. Auto racing, all star cast (John Goodman as Pops Racer was indeed perfect), great (ish) history to pull from. Yet, it fell flat. I couldn't tell what was happening in most of the racing scenes. Not to brag but I can ID almost any NASCAR car from the 80s to today by a Fender. Yet I couldn't tell who one of the main character's cars was until
Spoiler: show
Trixie drove his car.
The movie was flat out boring, honestly. There was very little humor, the plot was...contrived at best,
Spoiler: show
Really, a talented driver mulls over leaving his family team to join the most highly funded super team
, where have I heard That before?

Too much time was spent on set up, and too much time was spent showing off the flashy graphics. If they hadn't been so concerned with showing said graphics, they might have gotten a better plot out of it. It was so insane, in fact, that I plan to buy it on DVD just so I can watch the race scenes on slow-motion! There's really no other way to follow the races. The race tracks, as well, screamed of the 1999 cartoon "NASCAR Racers" or a fancy Hot Wheels set up. (gee, could that be because Hot Wheels has the liscence?)

The best part was Pops' rant about Rally racing. That literally made me laugh out loud, but that was the main highlight.

It's been a LONG time since I watched the cartoons, so I'm sure I've missed some of the nods to the show, but the ones I caught, at least, made it a little better.

One thing I didn't like was that they didn't
Spoiler: show
play the theme music from the cartoon. That was iconic about the show and all they did was sample it in the end credits. They also completly ignored the Homing Bird.

I think it's fairly telling in that when I went to see the movie, a scant FOUR days after it opened, there were exactly 5 people in the theatre, including myself and my brother, and one of the guys got up and left before it was done, and did not return! And, I saw it on Cape Cod, a major destination, so it's not like I was in some hick town with no people. A friend called me and I didn't answer during the previews-in retrospect I should have, in that it would have been a lot more fun talking to him and it's not like I would have missed anything!

They actually managed to make Spritle, who I have always referred to as Spittle, even MORE annoying then he was on the cartoon. I didn't think that was possible.

Overall, a lousy movie, that could have been something really incredible but ended up being about as boring as they possibly could have made it. And they made it long too! It was not the worst movie I've ever seen, but it's the worst CAR movie I've ever seen for sure. Like I said, I'll still buy the DVD just to watch it in slow motion, but if you're not really interested I would not waste the money.

One odd bit of trivia I picked up off IMDB-one of the racers in the rally scene is Indycar driver Milka Duno.
