CLEVELAND -- Cavaliers guard Delonte West is facing weapons charges after being pulled over on his motorcycle while carrying a small arsenal near his Maryland home late Thursday night.

Prince George's County police said West was carrying two concealed handguns and a shotgun when he was pulled over on Interstate 495 near his offseason home in Brandywine, Md. around 10 p.m. Corporal Clinton Copeland said West was speeding and cut off a police cruiser while riding on his three-wheeled 2009 Can-Am Spyder motorcycle.

After being stopped West informed police he was carrying a gun in his waistband, which was a 9mm Beretta. Police also found a Ruger .357 strapped to his leg and a shotgun inside a guitar case that was slung over his back. West was traveling alone.

Copeland said police are still investigating where West was going and why he was carrying the weapons.

"We don't have answers as to where he was going at this point," Copeland said. "I'm sure Mr. West will have to answer that at some point."

He has been charged with two counts of gun possession and several traffic citations, although those charges could be amended, Copeland said. According to Maryland criminal law, having an unlicensed handgun can carry a fine of $2,500 and/or up to three years in prison.

"We are aware of the situation and take this matter very seriously," Cavs general manager Danny Ferry said in a statement. "We have been in communication with Delonte and his family. We are gathering more information and will not have further comment until the appropriate time."

West's agents did not immediately return a message to The Plain Dealer.

West has said he suffers from bipolar disorder and has been open with his battle with mood swings and depression. Last season he left the Cavs for several weeks during training camp to get treatment for depression and was on medication at the time.

Copeland said West cooperated with police and did not require or receive any medical attention. He has been released on his own recognizance and has a court date set for Nov. 26.

It was not yet clear if West would be cleared to travel to Cleveland when the Cavs open training camp on Sept. 28.

As much as I love Delonte...this was completely stupid. He has a history of mental issues, last year he had suicidal thoughts and he missed some of training camp to seek help. I'm hoping that he wasn't intending on harming himself or anyone else with those guns, but something tells me he was up to no good.

According to Cavs 24/7, the guns he had on him were all registered to him, and when he was pulled over, the first thing he said was that he had the guns on him.

A small sigh of relief since they were registered to him and he told the officers ahead of time about the guns and cooperated with them. What still sits uneven with me is why he had three of them, what he was planning on doing with them, and where he was going with them. I'm trying not to jump to conclusions before anything is officially released, but I'm worried about what might have happened had he not been pulled over.

What a dumbass. And here I thought he looks like just an outstanding citizen by the looks of him. Im not sure what the Maryland laws are, but we all just saw what happened to Plaxico. Hell, I can understand a guy carrying 1 conceal gun, but 2 concealed, and a fn shotgun. DUH. Let me guess, he was just on his way home from a shooting range, right? Perhaps he just left the gun show and just purchased them. Uh huh. Was up to no good, and then sped past an officer on top of it. MORON.

It's ok. This guy will get off with a slap on the wrist because he is an athlete and a celebrity. When is this country going to wake up and understand that just because is on TV doesn't make them a god!

No Jayson Williams was the former New Jersey Nets player who shot and killed his limo driver/butler showing off his gun.Jayson Williams used a shotgun if I remember correctly.
