just imo. yes, it takes a heck of a performance to toss a perfect game. but the ball hit in the 9th inning was a home run........until a guy who was fresh off the bench, no warm up, sprinted about 30 yards, leaped and brought the ball back in the field of play, only to have it roll out of his glove, and yet still make the catch with the other hand while falling to the ground. i thought that is one of the most spectacular catches i've ever seen, also considering the circumstances, crowd noise, etc. i don't feel dewayne wise is got or is getting any where near the cudos he deserves for saving that perfect game. jmo | ![]()

This is going to sound un-american, I'm not into nor have I ever been that into baseball. But if that is called, counted or whatever is was.. a perfect game, Than what would 27 strikeouts by a single pitcher be called? and has this ever been done? Sorry to you baseball fans, I just don't know. Steve "Rapala-Guru" | ![]()

you make an excellent point. wouldn't that really be the "perfect game"? 27 batters with only 1 to 3 pitches, all strikes, to each batter, to get them out. no balls thrown to any hitter. no hits, no errors. and in fact wouldn't the "true" perfect game be 27 strikeouts? being 81 pitches all strikes? although possibly allowing foul balls? interesting. | ![]()

Throwing out 27 batters in the MLB is almost impossible. Back to the topic. I don't have a problem about how he didn't get credited that much. Everyone should get credited for making all the throws and not choking but he did save him of the perfect game and was the most help.

I heard Wise get some pretty good Kudos today from a couple people on ESPN. I don't think he's been shafted.

Thank you, I didn't care about a pitch count. Just was wondering if anybody had ever got the 27 strike-outs. High school, interesting. Has it happened in pro, triple A, etc? thanks again. Steve "Rapala-Guru" | ![]()

Nope, most in the pros is 21 Steve. I don't know AAA though. Buherle did pitch a heck of a game. I wish my Mets could get anything close to that sometime before the end of time.

Of course Wise got his due. Did you not read the Associated Press story about the perfect game? It was just as much about Wise's catch as it was about Buehrle. Great job by Buehrle. There's a lot of skill, but even more luck involved in those. Great job by Guillen by actually making the change in centerfield. Not often does a manager change anything when a no-no's on the line.

I line near Chicago, so I have heard EVERY station coment on the great catch by Wise. The announcers (radio and TV) also gave Wise his due. A perfect game is defined by Major League Baseball as a game in which a pitcher (or combination of pitchers) pitches a victory that lasts a minimum of nine innings and in which no opposing player reaches base.[1] Thus, the pitcher (or pitchers) cannot allow any hits, walks, hit batsmen, or any opposing player to reach base safely for any other reason—in short, "27 up, 27 down | ![]()
