Default I was watching the Pirate game and.......

I was watching the Pirate game, and was wondering about the AWFUL new jerseys they were wearing and thought I would check the net and see what I could find out about them. I stumbled across this and at the risk of sounding like Selby, ;) I thought I'd post it. I pretty much am beginning to agree w/this guy, .......at least about the uniforms!

Stupidity + Failure = Pirates New Uniforms

Written by GM-Carson on Jan-28-09 4:29am/28/2009 9:29 GMT From: pabaseball.blogspot.com

So these are the new uniforms the Pirates will be wearing to lose 100 games during the 2009 MLB season. Here are my first impressions:
- Generally speaking, I'm disappointed.
- I like the grey road uni, especially when the player sports high socks like Nyjer Morgan does in the picture...but the grey sleeveless was better.
- I also like the fat "P" making a long awaited return to the jersey front. However, that jersey looks like a batting practice/Spring Training jersey, and probably should be limited to such occasions.
- The red jersey is nowhere to be seen. They need to put that thing in the same closet as the "Turn Ahead The Clock" jersey and lock the door.
- The only sleeveless jersey they kept is the one I hate, that hideous pinstriped thing.
- The home whites are...boring home white. Take a look at the old jerseys [below]. How is this an improvement?

All in all, not a good effort by the Pirates. I would have simply removed the logo form the left sleeve like they did in the 60's and 70's (see pictures below), eliminated the red jersey and the pinstriped jersey, and maybe initiated a "new" throwback jersey to be worn on Sundays on something. But who really cares, right? No big deal. And then I read this on the official Pirates website:
"The changes were made in large part to identify closely with the team's history and tradition. The decision to go back to a jersey with sleeves was again part of the effort to identify with the uniform style of the most successful Pirates teams in the organization's history. Four of the five world championships won by the Pirates were won by players that had sleeved jerseys."
This is the kind of bullshit that infuriates Pirates fans like myself. I don't want to "identify" with successful Pirates teams, I want to WATCH successful Pirates teams. I don't care if they are dressed like the Taliban. I don't care if they wear ball gowns and high heels. Hell, if they would win 82 games, I'll wear a dress and high heels. I'd much rather have a player look horrible and hit .300 than have the LaRoche brothers play like crap in sleeves!

Furthermore, the Pirates didn't even do a good job "identifying" with successful teams of the past. What do you think of when you think of winning Pirates baseball? I think of this:

See any sleeves? I don't.

Sure, the last Pirates team to win the World Series had sleeves. But they also had pillbox hats with horizontal stripes, pull-over mustard yellow polyester jerseys and Dave Parker high on cocaine. Except for the coke, anybody want to bring back that winning tradition? Also, the first two World Champion Pirate teams wore sleeves. Of course, the colors were red and blue and some of the uniforms lacked a logo or script/print name and had collars. Any body want to bring back that winning tradition?

Like I said, same old tricks from the Pirates. Make some marginal changes that don't affect the state of the club, put a couple quotes in the media that make it look like they want to improve the club, all to distract the fans from the fact that the team still sucks and isn't getting any better. But hey, at least now they have sleeves.

I realize we the fans have created a demand for the various jersys of our favorite team.I have the original Giants jersey replica in my closet.IMO MLB and Majestic ought to have two jerseys a year one for home and one for the road.If you want a special jersey create one throw back from the year the team was established. Each year after that move up one year and do that particular jersey as a throw back.Keep it simple.IMO MLB ought to have a uniform dress code espically regarding pants and socks.

I do not mind one (1) alternate jersey, to give the fans a break from Uniform/eye fatigue. It's a long season in Baseball and Basketball.
But I whole heartedly agree w/the uniform dress code as far as the socks and pants. What ever happened to socks, especially the stirrup sock? If the uniform was supposed to be pants that went clear to the ankle, it would have been that way originally.
The Reds, and I believe the Yankees used to have a dress code. The Reds all had to wear their pants and socks the same, and the Reds and the Yankees used to have a code as to their hair and facial hair. The Yanks still do to a degree, that is why Damon had to shave and get a hair cut when he came over from Boston.
I miss the stirrup sock days!

As far as I know KC has three jerseys they use. The Home and Away Jersey's then they have the "Powder Blue" throwbacks they use on home weekends. But when teams have to use so many different ones I find it confusing!

The Pirates uniforms aren't that bad, at least not as bad as the Braves new alternate. Those are godawful.

I also have to gripe about the Indians uniforms just a little since this seems like an appropriate time and place. I don't like the script, plain and simple. That "I" on their uniforms looks like a J. This is how I'd have their uniforms.

I like the Indians one set in uniforms that I believe they wear on Sundays? Kind of like the Phillies alternate suits. They are an off white, kind of a cream color but not grey.
I guess I could live w/the Pirates alternate black shirt if the big "P" and the numbers were white trimmed in gold, instead of gold trimmed in white, and the names were the same, not just gold. Being some what an artist, the color combo doesn't lay well on the shirt.
I know I myself like the Pirates red vests that they wore lasyt year on Fridays at home. they should have worn them more often. I also like the pinstriped Sunday home suits.
I guess after the last few years of sleeveless vests, then to go back to sleeves just for a change seemed anticlimactic.
If they wanna go w/something different, they should go back to the 70-71 unis. The first double knit suits in baseball. Of course not pullover and not double knitt, but w/the mustard, white and black stripes on the sleeves and socks and the mustard and black hats. Never will happen though.

I always like these as well, but not in certain combinations. The black shirts w/the gold pants was nice, the all gold was nice and the all black was nice. They even went as far as to mix in the striped and they looked awful unless they were just matched striped shirt w/striped pants. I know no one else will like em' but I did ! LOL!

The all black pic wouldn't load damnt!!
