Default Prototype Diecast Question....

A friend of mine just acquired what he's calling a prototype diecast. It's a 2005 Kasey Kahne Dodge Mega Cab Elite with serial number 0000?? Has anyone heard of this? He also acquired one with no serial number on the bottem as well, they are both elites. Now I personally never heard of this but maybe someone here could help out?? Any information would be greatly appreciated!

It probably is. You can research some recent threads about this. Over the years Action changed the way they serialed the prototypes, and the #0000 was one of them. No serial plate was another way too, but you had to be careful where you got one of those from. I'm pretty sure 2005 proto's were done #0000.

both could be considered prototypes. the #0000 one most likely is the one that made final approval and usually goes to MA or the actual company/sponsor or team that it was made for. the one that has no serial number is one of just a few that went through all the people that needed to give it approval before it gets made. most of those have maybe slight variations.

And if you didn't know exactly what a prototype is, it's the cars MA uses as samples before they actually produce the car. They would essentially make a prototype of the car which may or may not be exactly like the end product, and would send it to the team, sponsors, etc. for approval. Normally they'd have a few sample's before the final one. The final one would be stamped #0000 while the others probably would have a DIN/Serial Number. Because these cars are normally kept by MA, the teams, the driver, or the sponsors, they are very rare to come by and are much more expensive than the regular diecasts.

Please correct me if I'm wrong anybody (in case MA has changed exactly what they do, but this is what I'm aware of)

Ok thanks. But the cars I'm talking about here are from 2005 and are RCCA Elites, not ARC's or from MA. The one with no number on the chassis is exactly that, a car with no other identification on it whatsoever except from the copyright stamp.

Thanks for the replies though, it has helped considerably as far as the 'You got robbed' idea goes; they are probably legit.

pretty accurate but fair to say they are only more 'expensive' on the secondary market due to hype/scarcity...they don't really cost any more, other than they are hard to find and some people become almost obsessed with them/pay considerably more because it is such a rareity...to me they don't mean much. I have a couple and yes depending on how they are handled they come in all sorts of configurations of packaging/indications. Here's one I got last year after doing some work with RCR, this one came in a plain white box...and NO....it's not for sale...EVER...

That's what I was about to say, they are the same thing so Brad, when I said MA, it applies the same to RCCA, I believe they do the exact same thing.

Yes that is correct, RCCA was on their own up until late 2006, that was when MA was born. MA started official production for the 2007 year.
