I was just thinking through it today, but I have a 1997 and a 1998 #75 that is sponsored by Remington Arms, and on the rear decklid of the 1998 car is Smokey Mountain Snuff. Both of these cars are 1:64 and I know that 1:64 diecast are not allowed to have alcohol and tobacco, but why would it allow guns, which are most likely just as bad? In addition, I have 3 die-cast that violate this 1:64 kids rule that were non-adult die-cast so I'm quite confused. 1998 1:64 #75 Remington Arms Racing Champions (Smokey Mountain Snuff on deck lid) 2004 1:64 #42 Texaco Havoline Winners Circle (Coors Light logo on the B-Pillar. Very small, but definitely a Coors Light logo). 2007 1:64 #7 Motorola Ford CFS (Jim Beam on the side of the car) | ![]() | ||

those aren't the only ones that break that mold either. they made 2 of jamie mcmurray's cars with the smirnoff decals on them as well in 1/64. i think it was 2006. an irwin tools one and the sharpie one.

One more...the 1/64 Kevin Harvick Winners Circle AOL car actually has the Bud Pole Award logo with the full "Bud" text. I believe it also has the 'Winston Cup Series' sticker with full text too...not just the blank sticker.

They have to be on a base such as the adult released Dale Jr. cars. The ones listed above came in regular packaging with no base and no 21+ age specification.

The Tobacco ruling came into affect after the 1999 season. Before that it was legal, after that not so. Tobacco cars have a small but prevalent place in diecast history-before 1997 they were only available as promos, and before 1994 they were only available as bootlegs. The Alcohol ruling is a little trickier to figure out. It's still allowed but now the alcohol cars MUST be on the base. However, the regular release cars up until 2006 had the Bud Pole decal on there, and those cars were not on a base. The CFS cars still carry the Coors Light Pole Award logo. So-called Hard Liquor cars, like Crown Royal, Jack Daniel's, Jim Beam, etc are not allowed in 1/64 scale. Occasinally a car will be made with them-all the ones referenced above and Smirnoff Ice made it onto a couple of cars as well, at least one Matt Kenseth car for sure. They are not supposed to be on basic Winner's Circle or Kid's Series/Pit Stop cars, and the report of them on the McMurray car is the first I've heard of it. Such as the case may be, several cars have been recalled for this very reason. In 1997, Racing Champions issued in the Stock Rods line a 60s Ford Mustang with the accurate Miller Lite graphics of Rusty Wallace. This car was supposedly recalled and trades for a premium, and in fact is the only Stock Rods issue that now retails for more then $10, usually around $15. I am not sure if that is because it truly was recalled and is therefor scarce, or because it just has the hype and demand, something the other Stock Rods don't have. The two Crown Royal shod Jamie McMurray cars were also recalled, supposedly. I have heard conflicting reports that they were recalled, or the production was stopped mid-stream and they were removed (I find this to be the more likely scenario). They are definitly more scarce then the versions without Crown Royal. I don't think the Robby Gordon car with Jim Beam was recalled or changed mid-stream. I guess that the production was low enough that the watchdog/advocate groups missed it. In the early days of the hobby, Racing Champions actually released Rusty Wallace's #27 car WITH Miller Lite on the standard card, and it was also available in the Sears Christmas set (The car is the same, I have both) and it MAY-I am not sure-also be available in a three-pack. You won't find a car that actually has Budweiser markings-and is not a bootleg-until 1994 when both Racing Champions and RCCA issued them. A-B is tough on all aspects of liscensing. If you look closely on the back of the packaging, or bottom as it were, of all RCCA, Driver's Select/Action Platinum from 2007-current, and basic Action Releases before that, in the fine print it says "Not For sale to minors-21 and over only" (I am paraphrasing) which is their legal loophole. You can also not legally join RCCA until you become of legal age, although there are ways around that as well. Before 1997 it was unusual to see the Bud (or, Busch) Pole Award on the cars, but they started appearing on the cars in 1997, as did the Winston Cup logo. Busch series cars did not, to my knowledge, get the Busch series logos until 1998, and this was only on Action cars. Racing Champions and Hot Wheels did not ever carry the correct logoage. They would not have been able to have been sold at mass-market retail had they been correct, like Wal-Mart, Kmart, TRU, etc. The kicker in all this is, all the government imposed rules do not apply to 1/24 scale, except, I believe, the tobacco rules, which do apply. The Government thinks owning these items with alcohol on them will make people want to use alcohol...but I will start ranting and raving if I get going on that so I will stop myself before I do.

Not that it really matters, but Smokey Mountain Snuff is not tobacco. It's that herbal stuff that's kinda like near beer or diet soda. You know, the stuff that make's you say, "Why bother?"
