Default DIN Registration

Im sure there are some DIN Registration topics buried, so I figured I would just start a new one here in the Diecast 101 section. I was just wondering what collectors general opinions are of the DIN Registration program? Me, I think its a great idea, but think it still needs a lot of tweaking. So I can register my cars and look at them on there. Uh, ok, great, now what do I do? Personally, I think they should "open up the garages" and allow users to view other garages, and develop "friends" on there. I guess that would turn back into a forum, which for obvious reasons they dont want to get into, but I think it would be neat to see what other people have in there stables, especially people that you/I know! I guess another question would be, how many of you actually register your cars vs. Not registering them and why? Has anyone actually contacted MA about DIN registration? I know Spool had a car registered on there that he didnt have or register, he contacted them, and well, nothing happened, so he just deleted it himself. Anyways, just looking for, and to spread a little input on this topic. Thanks guys.

I have registered all of my cars (except for the newest ones that I haven't got around to registering yet) and when I've had issues, I've sent e-mails, and for the most part, I've gotten responses pretty quickly. In most cases, I get e-mails back within a day or two, and at worst, it takes a week. The only one I never got an answer back on was the Jeff Burton Lenox car that mysteriously showed up in my garage. Some newer cars, I've tried to register before they've even been entered into the database, so they just let me know when I could add them.

They also sent me an e-mail requesting ideas for improvements. Some of the things I suggested were being able to sort your garage, adding pictures to cars that didn't have them, being able to search your collection, and a few other things I don't remember. So far, I don't see any improvements from the original set-up of the site. In addition to the site, I maintain an excel spreadsheet of my cars and their DIN's in case I have to re-register for some reason.

I did all my DINs on their site. It's a good idea, and I agree, it should be expanded.

thought I posted it on this site somewhere, but a good friend/dealer told me three years ago the DIN (in concept) was comming and it would be important to keep up with them if you wanted primo stuff later on. Apparently (in a nutshell) the cost of producing so many diecast that don't sell really adds up in warehousing and liquidation. They will eventually use the DIN registrations to determine who the big spenders are and only those people will have exclusive rights to certain pieces. Then again with how the white gold scam works...who do you believe? But they plan to cut production to one less than demand (at that time anyways) and make the pieces more "collectable" in that capacity. So yeah, I register them all.

Thats a good point New2. I kind of figured that was what they were doing, but never really knew for sure. Im sure they also keep tabs on "where you bought it" from, meaning, I know they do, cuz they ask. Meaning, they probably actually do look at it. Or at least, they look up your info, and see what kind of collector you are/spend, and would be much more likely to listen to a guy like Spool, with his rather large and pricey stable over a guy with a few cars in there, pissing and moaning about not getting a new car. Makes sense, and cant say I blame them.

yeah, the concept, and I think it is already showing itself a bit, is to eliminate the trackside trailers (ESPECIALLY with the robbery at the fuel pumps these days) and establish NASMALLS at the venues that could be open year 'round. Already seeing some of this with new/refurbed bildings/facilities. Bristol has a huge center/store, MIS is slated for massive overhauls in August following the cup race.

The down side is, most tracks are in the middle of nothingness due to the noise, parking, and crowds on race weekend. Likewise as fewer and fewer trailers are being brought to tracks, the selection is decreasing rapidly. Consumers are spending less, and things are getting push and shove with sponsors, etc....

I would like them to be able to expand there cars to the past, WHICH WILL NEVER HAPPEN, because the didn't release them!! It is a great idea, for not only us, the collector's, but also for the extra insurance we have to pay to the Insurance Companies!! I know that I have all of the cars I have on there site, but unfortunately, the previously released cars I have to Back-Up onto a disk and keep in a safety deposit box, along with Pictures.
