Decal Help.

I was wanting to make my own decals and I need some help with a few questions on some thing. What is the best format to use to make decals. I like to make cars on paint.net bit I don't know if its the best way. Also what size length do you make them when you print them out onto the decal paper. If anyone can help it would be very helpful . Thank you.

Quite a bit goes into making your own decals. First you need editing software (paint shop pro, photoshop, Corel draw). I use paint shop pro 9 and PowerPoint. I use paint shop pro to draw the artwork then transfer it to PowerPoint. Once I get it to PowerPoint I lay everything out as you would see it on a decals sheet. I print that out on plain paper and cut each image out and scale it to the car. In PowerPoint I can make it larger or smaller without loosing the sharpness of the image. Once everything is scaled I print it out on decal paper. There are 2 kinds of decal paper, clear and white. What type you use depends on your printer. If you have a printer that prints white (Alps) you can use clear paper. If you can not print white (laser printer) you have to use white paper. If you use white paper all your artwork has to have a border that is the same color as the car. This make doing wraps and elaborate paint schemes very difficult. Once everything is completed and printed you will need to seal the artwork. Any clearcoat will work. I use Krylon Crystal Clear non-yellowing formula. Spray a light coat and let it dry. Once dry, apply them as you would any other decal.
