An alternate "Chase"
Well, this weekend begins the "Chase" and I was thinking that except for Kasey Kahne, I would imagine all the usual suspects have made it. They usually do. Other than the last few years where Jr. missed it and Gordon missed it, the big guys are almost always in it.
I was curious what it would be like if a few (meaning more than one) of the other guys were to get in. Then I was surprised I thought of this, and NASCAR didn't. They were, (not sure if they still do) offering $1,000,000.00 to the 11th place guy when the Chase consisted of 10 drivers, can't recall if it continued when the "Chase" expanded to 12 drivers or not.
I offer up this as an alternate offering for our attention this year.
What if the 13th through 25th (may as well use 12 since the "Chase" uses 12) place drivers had a separate "Chase" for say $5,000,000.00.
It could be broken down like a race purse, $2,000.000.00 for the winner, and then split however they deemed appropriate for the rest of the spots. Then there would be something for the guys who are not always in the spotlight to race for, and it would give the fans of these guys something to watch rather than being (as usual) inundated w/the same old stuff week in and week out.
Here are the positions, 13th through 25th....

14 DAVID RAGAN
15 BRIAN VICKERS
16 RYAN NEWMAN
17 MARTIN TRUEX, JR
18 JAMIE MCMURRAY
19 KURT BUSCH

There are some really neat guys in this list. Truex, Bobby Labonte, JPM and Travis Kvapil!
No bonus' for wins, just reset the points to zero, and let er' rip! I think it would be cool, and would give the die-hard fans of anybody other than the big names something to watch and to keep their attention. It was just a thought I had, as to what it would be like if they had.....

That's a neat idea. It'd be nice to focus on the drivers that are there but not always at the top of the running order. They deserve their time as well.Posted 09-10-2008 at 12:02 PM by racersimage
